Though from what I’ve understood he’s always been like this.
Yep, he’s generally had views that were a bit on the bigoted side, which he managed to keep sort of hidden a bit, but in recent years especially, he really has degenerated into the angry old racist wondering why he can’t refer to foreigners by a derogatory name.
Fawlty Towers was seen as a great comedy, but it really did run on 2 things.
1. Cleese being shouty
2. Cleese hating and mocking all foreigners in particular.
It’s actually pretty disturbing to watch back when you realise just how xenophobic it is.
