Life altering injuries to be precise.
Good that some attention is being given to this issue. Though it is interesting that it took an American tourist to get the attention of politicians
Just arriving at that conclusion now, eh?
At this point, they shift everything onto the Garda recruitment. Do they realise nobody wants to join the Garda because they have no power? He needs to look at himself in the eye and ask himself when was the last time a “strong penalty” was handed out for something like this?
Get a grip.
Varadkar’s solution will be to increase personal security for all Fine Gael TD’s
Ireland seems safe statistically, but from my experience of growing up in a violent area, crime is very rarely reported and after that it’s very rarely followed up on. Maybe 1 in 100 crimes actually result in a Garda showing up, giving a statistical illusion of safety
If only he’d been in a position of power for the last 12 or so years to do something about it. Oh well!
We continue to tolerate politicians responding with descriptions of events rather than an honest admission that the dominant social philosophy of dealing with crime has failed. It has failed because it and the political class do not recognize that the state is failing in its primary duty to citizens. They have a different vision where the state exists as a legal entity to foster the market. Part of the market I.e. Tourism is affected by this so, response.
45% of the electorate agree with this.
Judges need to get tougher less slaps on the wrist.
