Covid: No guarantees over Christmas lockdown, says Dominic Raab

  1. Hilarious stuff. As if anyone is going to follow lockdown directions after what the government has been doing. Do you think I’m going to have a lockdown Christmas and not see my family after they all do whatever they like and don’t follow the rules? HA!

  2. Well it would be helpful if sage were using the data for this variant, rather than the alpha variant. Thre were 3 deaths in S Africa yesterday, why are we going worst case scenario here, and why give boosters if they wanna shut it all down anyway? [https://www.cityam.com/modellers-exclude-south-africa-data-indicating-omicron-is-milder-than-delta-variant-reveals-sage-expert/](https://www.cityam.com/modellers-exclude-south-africa-data-indicating-omicron-is-milder-than-delta-variant-reveals-sage-expert/) I think they may be afraid that omicron could bring around the end of this, with no money to be made…

  3. The longer the “will they won’t they?” The more uncertainty, the more last minute it is that people’s plans will have to be cancelled…

The more people will just say “fuck it” and just do their planned event.

Honestly I don’t think they know just how much they’ve lost the proverbial room here.

Its very clear at my workplace that its literally the same people who put up wholesome rainbows in their windows in 2020 and were ultra compliant who are now taking the piss, sharing cheese and wine memes and saying “nothing will cancel my christmas plans”.

  4. Indecision is not leadership. You look at the data you have and make a judgement call. Boris shouldn’t be hedging his bets by crossing his fingers.

  5. I 100% guarantee that our family will be observing no lockdown, at Christmas or any other time.

  6. Now that there’s solid/photographic evidence of them ignoring their own rules across numerous stages of the pandemic & their response has been to gaslight/lie to us I think I speak for a decent amount of people when I say I’ll be ignoring everything & anything they say for the foreseeable.

If you can’t be bothered enough to follow your own rules then I won’t be either.

Also before someone comes in with the “COVID PANIC!1! YOU’RE GONNA DIE YOU ANTI VAX IDIOT!1!” comment I have already had both the virus & my jabs, I will take the risk of catching it again before I destroy my mental health even more.

  7. I mean you can tell people theres a lockdown but at this point anybody who listens is a moron.

Most people have 2 vaccines and vulnerable people have 3, time to learn to live with it considering both jabs and a booster give 95% protection

  8. We’ve already decided to effectively go into self isolation. There’s no point paying attention to the government and with this variant ripping through the population I’m able and willing to sacrifice a bit if it means our hospitals aren’t overrun.

Those doctors, nurses, care home and support staff have given us everything over the last year and a half. They deserve to have us doing all we can to help relieve their burden.

  9. I don’t really get all the fuss about people claiming the government is being indecisive. Obviously at the minute they don’t think they need restrictions, but there’s no point painting themselves into a corner by saying there’ll be no restrictions in the future if the case rate increases.

So Seems pretty reasonable to say there’s no guarantee restrictions won’t have to be brought in

I’m interested what else a minister could possibly say when a journalist asks them if there will be more restrictions in the future?

  10. What purpose does a lockdown actually serve if everyone’s already vaccinated? At the end of the lockdown we’ll just launch straight back into another peak. I know medical workers are crying out for rest and resources, which are very important, but in terms of reducing the impact of Covid, aren’t we just delaying the inevitable?
