Numerous ministers said we would never return to restrictions under any circumstances.

As someone who runs a business that involves a bar/late night venue this is absolutely horrifying, our entire industry has just spent millions on alcohol stocks for the busiest portion of any year, leaving announcements til this late and potentially cancelling new year will be the final nail in the coffin if restrictions don’t come with immediate grants and financial help for not only the lost income but the extra stock we will not be able to move.
We have staff that need their job to pay their bills and support their families but I’m supposed to just tell them “sorry”, no open, no hours again, I highly doubt furlough will come back in any sense either
Omicron spreads faster but the deaths/hospitalisations do not follow earlier variants, and the ONLY reason for restrictions was so that the NHS could handle it.
My local hospital is not overrun and neither are many others, this is entirely uncalled for

They can do what they like….nobody is following the rules now..been out shopping today in the uk..the odd mask and no clue there is covid anywhere..the 4 police I saw 2 had masks on 2 didn’t…people are bored now…
It will be limits on mixing at best, they cannot really impose a full lockdown when they know people will be against it. We’ll be allowed to mix with one other household, maybe two, but that will be the extent of any restrictions, especially as this time of year.
