  1. That is a contraceptive.
It reduces your chance of getting pregnant by 99% but still there is a chance you can still get pregnant.

  2. Let me try. Let me try.

With modern medication STDs are manageable diseases and you can even continue to live a long, normal life if you get AIDs.

I still don’t want to go out and raw dog randos every night and catch it though.

  3. He does know you can still get pregnant even if you use all forms of available contraception right? At least pick a good example if you’re going to be a contrary prick.

  4. I know the vaccine has been somewhat disappointing in some aspects but look at deaths and icu numbers who are unvaccinated. Makes it very simple

  5. So, the obvious response to this is that the Pill is only 95% effective, so his comparison is dumb in that regard, because this pretty much is what contraceptives are.

At the same time, I want to clarify something lots of people don’t understand about that stat though – it’s calculated per year – ie over one year, on the Pill alone, it is thought to have a 95% chance of preventing pregnancy.

But again, that’s *per year*. It does *not* account for your full fertile lifetime. If were to you use only the Pill for, say, 30 sexually active years, your chances of it preventing a pregnancy would go down every year because that chance of failure accumulates.

Imagine you had to play Russian Roulette with a revolver that somehow had 20 chambers and only one bullet. The difference between playing it once vs 30 times is quite significant.

Over 30 years of typical use, if you only depended on the pill, you would in fact be much more likely than not to wind up with at least one unplanned pregnancy.

It’s really important to understand because the “95%” thing is widely misunderstood even by pill users, and commonly abused by anti choicers and Ben-esque crackpots. Yes, it way improves your chances of not getting pregnant, but it’s important to know about the possible complications anyway and think about failsafes and contingencies.

  6. This chap had some degree of credibility once upon a time, being a small guy who took on and won a case against a bank over a potential repossession.

Unfortunately he’s long since descended down the rabbit hole of anti vax and freeman of the land nonsense. You’ll find him out and about any time there’s a bunch of neanderthals protesting in Dublin City. He’s a clown.

  7. Plenty of clowns listen to this absolute grifter. Even worse that plenty of clowns vote for him too.

  8. Contraceptive… can still get pregnant after taking contraceptive precautions…. Need to use a condom…

    Wha?

  9. I mean he got all of 700 votes.

In all seriousness I think I could get more and even I don’t like me

  10. He’s omni-ignorant. Believes and sells all that “Freeman on the land” stuff. Years ago when i was on twitter he confused astronomy with astrology.

If Ben Gilroy walked into a corner or room he would need help to get out, like a senile dog.

  11. If there was a fella who made you feel smart for agreeing with him, but you were still actually dumb, would you still believe in him?

  12. Imagine when he find out that there is injectable contraceptive and that absolutely no contraceptive, including condoms and vasectomies are 100% safe…

  13. He’s the scum of the earth. A young lad died in Waterford over the summer and he went to the funeral and had a broadcast outside the church saying it was the vaccine that killed him

  14. What’s that subreddit for people who don’t understand how female anatomy works? Seems like this would belong there

  15. this is why sex ed is very damn important. his generation were just priests and nuns teaching about heaven and hell

  16. I mean, seat belts don’t stop you from crashing, but do you wearing them?. the whole idea with the covid vax is to reduce the worst symptoms of covid.
