  1. That’s the thing nobody is talking about with this plan, it sends the message to transgender students that the government is trying to actively out them to their families. What kind of message is that to send to LGBT+ young people? The government is going to demand that other people out you if they find out you’re different, it’s chilling and the obvious intention is to force them to hide themselves from everyone and cut them off from support.

And it’s not just cases of actual physical harm we need to be considering, the sad truth is that plenty of people in this country are still deeply anti-LGBT+ and LGBT+ people know it. I’ve got friends who are in their 30s or even 40s who still haven’t come out to members of their family because they know they’ll treat them poorly if they know, and there will be a lot more cases like that than cases where the transgender student in question is at risk of physical harm (although obviously that’s a serious and inevitable danger that this plan will inevitably cause as well).

This is one of the most despicable things a British government has proposed in a long time and it’s incredibly telling that there isn’t more outrage about it because the media has successfully conditioned millions of us to view transgender people so unfavourably that people are actually defending a policy to force schools to out them to their families against their will.

  2. The thing I don’t understand, is that if a it’s so dangerous to tell a parent that their child is something. Wouldn’t it be a safeguarding issue to let the child go home?

At the same time, what would the problem be with a normal loving parent being told & given the appropriate advice for their child?

  3. A straightforwardly evil move by the conservative party.
