>Sir Keir Starmer said it was clear Ulez was the reason the Tories won – urging Mr Khan to “reflect” on the expansion. “We know that [was the reason for defeat]. We heard that on the doors. And we’ve all got to reflect on that – including the mayor.”
Starmer actually defended Khan while campaigning(even when the Labour candidate for the seat was against the policy) and pointed out that
– It was Boris Johnson who introduced Ulez
– The local government had a legal requirement to reduce emissions
But it didn’t work. Whether Labour likes it or not this has become a major issue on the doorstep in outer London and this is going to have an impact on both next year’s mayoral elections and the next general elections.
Sadiq Khan needs to seriously consider rolling back the Ulez expansion.
Comes closer to taking the seat than any election interest past 60 years or so.
>Sir Keir told LBC he sympathised with those that would be affected but said Mr Khan would face legal action if he did not take measures to improve air quality in London.
Sounds like a nice quick thing to reflect on. Carry on and be fine, or stop and face legal issues.
This guy’s like a fucking weathervane, though. Just without the cock.
Attacking motorists is a very quick way to lose an election, not sure why he’s been allowed to push it so long. People mention ULEZ may have been a Tory idea but Khan comes across equally enthusiastic about it rather than apologetic.
What I think it comes down to is that Khan is a major Labour politician who’s somewhat outside Starmer’s sphere of influence.
No threat of whip or deselection, can’t boot him out the party without a major fuck up.
At a time when Starmer is trying to consolidate Labour as the new center under his specific vision, Khan has potential to be a thorn in his side . It’s not surprising he sees an opportunity in unloading an election loss on him.
Kier Starmer is a pussy. He’s so scared to deviate from Tory policy that he backpedals every single progressive party policy, and is now publicly undermining one of his own guys. Useless prick. Fuck the tories _and_ labour, they’re equally useless.
