>The housing secretary said the proposal to ban landlords from renting out their homes unless they pay to increase the energy performance certificate rating of their properties should be pushed back past 2028.
Not like we’ve just experienced a winter where millions were put into poverty and poor housing stock caused excess gas usage, driving inflation, which is now affecting mortgages?
Or that anything is happening in Europe at the moment that might mean a focus on climate would be beneficial?
I do always wonder how many people support these headlines, but then will be the ones on the beach in Rhodes complaining that their treatment is “disgusting” and not quite drawing the links between the two.
So not content with fucking the economy he’s also intent in fucking the planet even more
Gove is the housing secretary? Well that explains a lot.
> he called for “thoughtful environmentalism”.
Quite, and with credible predictions that we will not only blow through 1.5C but cruise comfortably to a 2.5C temperature rise and beyond a new dialogue is starting up. If its too late I can see the conversation will be about how we can protect shareholder value while trying to reduce to impact of climate change, rather than prevent it.
No change there then.
Following a week where the temperature record for the last 100,000 years was broken daily, our government thinks its time to do even less. I despair.

>The upgrade required to increase a property’s energy performance could include fitting a heat pump, providing insulation or installing solar panels, which the newspaper suggested could cost thousands of pounds.
Sensible. Making landlords fork out thousands is either going to result in fewer rental properties as they take them off the market at a time where supply is already under pressure, and/or higher rents which are already sky high.
Yes. Let’s not try and deal with the single biggest problem facing the world population, let’s concentrate on winning the next election by pandering to idiots. Great idea Govey Gove.
