Imagine what it’d be like to have a government that actually did anything.
I’m sure it’ll be calm and rational and the mass calling of the police when KFC ran out of chicken will in no way be a canary down the coal mine.
Well theres your problem: https://i.imgur.com/Dw3QhQZ.jpeg
I don’t buy lots of this. Not least of all that it’s struggling to hit 20 deg in monsoon like July. Not a denier either.
Homes can increase ventilation by erm opening windows
Why would we not have AC if required as the rest of the world does and it also does heating much cheaper than commonplace electric convention heaters used in many flats.
Trains in Switzerland, Sweden, France and elsewhere cope with -20 to +40 so why would we not modify our system easily.
I would say Britain will cope better with climate change and it will drive even more migration from less hospitable parts of the globe.
Aside from the leasehold/landlord issue with multi occupancy dwellings (flats) you also have to consider the state of our housing stock generally. Its not in a place where you could roll out AC without great expense because much of it is of a different time
Its the same story with heat pumps the reality of that government scheme is that it was essentially a 5k bung/rebate to households who were getting the work done regardless.. and doesn’t reflect at all on the several grand of additional extra work needed for the property to have one.. you might be looking at 15k total.
> Britain’s infrastructure is also ill-suited to hot weather. The railways, for example, have a “stress-free” air temperature of just 27°C, and can start to buckle above 30°C.
> According to Network Rail, using rails capable of surviving such highs would make them ill-suited to surviving winter temperatures. Following last summer, however, it is now seeking advice for countries with large temperature fluctuations for how it might adapt.
This is rather embarrassing. The railway companies go for the cheapest, narrowest specs for rails.
