Black means non-electrified, the colors are the different voltage levels as per the legend box.
Oh, quite updated. Some of those electrified lines in Turkey were inaugurated a few weeks ago.
So is it me or none are being proposed/ constructed? Also can someone explain the advantages of high /low voltage lines to me please? Spain Italy and Poland seem to use one rating whilst Germany Switzerland and Austria another and France and England are kinda Balkans level
Missing some in Sweden tho.
Cool website but this screenshot so zoomed out shows so little of italy’s electrified lines, i was really confused until i checked the website because it is showing really only the high-er speed lines
Sicily has electrified railways, Sardinia has got small electrified metropolitan rai lines.
This map is showing also not electrified railways around Europe, but Sicily, Corsica, Sardinia and even Mallorca which have not electrified railways are totally missing.
first I was afraid, I was electrified 🎶
Which color is the best?
Missing some lines in France too, there is definitely an electrified one going from Toulouse to (near) Andorra.
And people still wonder how flying is pretty popular in finland, especially towards the north. Getting there by train is slower, easily more expensive, and you still only get like halfway there. Of course this only shows electrified lines, so there’s that too.
Now color them by maximum speed
Greece: How about abandon almost all trainstations for about 20years and use buses instead.
why is there such a difference?
what advantage does one have over the other?
How do we deal with all these different electrical systems for rail if we want efficient rail travel to be a thing again? Do we need transformers on trains to deal with different voltages and frequencies?
Italy is missing lots of minor (and not-so-minor) lines.
