Pro tip: remove ice from the wings properly, especially if you sit in DC9/MD80.
Fun story about this flight: 1 passager was reported missing from the scene, witnesses reported that they had a seen a man in a suit walking on the field right after the accident. Apparently he took a cab from there (and went on the next flight?). Guess he had a really important meeting that day
Had it taken off yet?
Fun fact: The pilot of that said flight used music to heal himself (mentally) from the traumatic experience. You can find some of [his music](https://open.spotify.com/artist/5uZE0Y2Yv3NwHQwETVKaVZ?si=bgssbkWKQua68fmFq8qTsw&utm_source=copy-link) on Spotify. His name is Stefan Rasmussen. He’s still alive and well to this day. Not a pilot anymore, though.
Normally planes need wings to fly.
I fly to get Lucky!
best scandinavian engineering
Was the front *supposed* to fall off?
I flew from Arlanda about 30 minutes earlier and sat at the wings looking at the defrosting machines defrost them *(just like the accident plane)*.
The early reports didn’t specify which plane had gone down so when I landed after my short trip I was met by a very relived and shocked relative *(I had no idea what had happened)*.
*PS! I never bought a lottery ticket that day.*
Don’t remember the reason but you can see on the picture that they painted over the logo
Wow. That really is amazing.
I watched this like last week on a tv channel, crazy what happened and how the main pilot couldnt go back to piloting.
Funny thing is that I see the front of that plane every week at work
Per Holmberg pretty much got PTSD and got worse after his heroic contribution.
Wow
Is this why the Copenhagen airport has this mural that says, “expect a miracle”?

That was probably the lousiest landing in the history of this airport…
Looks like they bought the plane from IKEA 😂😂
Edit: Who’ms’t vote manipulat’d me? 🤔
Edit 2️⃣: Attention all it appears that I have been the victim of [vote manipulation](https://www.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043066412) by malicious actors, possibly operating out of Southern Sweden. Please make sure to upvote so that my high quality content can get some visibility! Cheers! 😄
Edit 3️⃣: STOP VOTE MANIPULATING ME 😭😭😭
This was back when they still knew how to properly build a plane to cleanly separate into three equal-sized chunks.
Plane playing snake.
I remember this from being between 7 and 8 years old. After hearing about it in the morning parents took us children into car and drove past the summer cabin which is around ~6-8km through the wood from the crash site, not sure about time when we got there but they were driving our vehicles on field and we stood and watched from afar. Only thing I remember my folks and other talked about except the obvious of a plane crash was how fast the painters got out there to cover the airline company logo on the plane.. 20 minutes after looking around we jumped in to the car and when down to the church/Statoil where my grandparent lived and went in for a quick “fika”. Time flies..
Well, the front fell off in this case by all means, but that’s very unusual.
Looks like Cartman dressed up as Brad Pitt again.
I seriously believe Scandinavia has some kind of blessing. No natural disaster, barely any animals/insects that kill, barely any terroritist attacks that kills people, every disaster is basically just to ruin people’s day.
Someone had to clean up a lot of poo that day
Everybody walked away? The very definition of a good landing.
A friend of mine knew some of the firefighters called in to this. Apparently the initial call to their station said something along the lines of “A DC9 has crashed, there are 17 wounded”. Knowing that a DC9 takes about 140 passengers, they steeled themselves en route to prepare for the sight of 140-17 = 123 dead bodies… and had some disorienting moments when they arrived on site and it was full of people walking around.
Technically it broke into 5. Wings gone.
I actually have a piece (window, 5th from the left) of the wreckage. I’ve always had a fear of flying after hearing about this crash when I was a child. It really was a miracle that no one died given how hopeless the situation was.
I believe one person was severely hurt and paralyzed for life after the accident.
No fatalites is a good fortune
This is why you brace
As always there are no wings in the crash.
My dad jokingly calls the place Gottröra International
The *fuselage* broke in three. The plane broke in more pieces, no fewer than four since one of the wings detached.
Pilots were really skilled and calm about it, unfortunately only 1 of them returned to flying after the incident
(1) Even though the (2) airplane (3) broke in (4) three,
(1) there were (2) no fa-(3)ta-li-(4)ties.
