Currently in Northern Spain having just finished a nice lunch. The two glasses of wine, one beer and the three tapas pictured came to a grand total of 13 euros. What could you get in Ireland for 13 euros? It’s actually crazy what we have to pay for things.

Ask the person serving you how much they’re getting paid and see how you get on
€13? A reacharound from a midget.
Seriously though, yeah we are getting screwed. No chance of an equivalent here for that amount.
A subway costs 12 euro lol …looks nice….enjoy
The minimum wage in Spain is ~40% lower than it is in Ireland.
It’s cheap for you, but someone else along the line is paying for it.
I went to the chip shop the other night.
2 cod and chips, a bottle of Coke and a few battered sausages.
€672 and they weren’t even nice
Did they have a suggested tip amount on the machine when you went to pay?
Wages are cheaper, the cost of alcohol I believe is cheaper no? I assume Serrano is the ham and is produced in Spain.
Still looks fucking delish.
Regardless of the wage argument, there’s a lot to be said for the “why the hell would you holiday in Ireland” side of things
* 3 tapas — honestly I could see these being 7 or more each but let’s be kind and say 5, so 15 total.
* Two glasses of wine — 7 each, 14.
* Pint of beer — 6.50
15 + 14 + 6.50 == **€35.50**
For three drinks and a small bite to eat in Dublin… yeah, that sounds about right.
And by “right” I mean fucking disgraceful but also reality.
People that can work remotely for an Irish company and can live in Spain literally won the life lottery.
Ask the staff how much they get paid. Might help comparison
Currently living in Valencia the quality of food you get for cheap here is great
They have a thing called menu del dia here too which is two big plate course a desert and a drink for €12-15 depending on the place.
I wanted to move to Spain. When I looked at the salaries for the equivalent jobs, I’d have to take a 50% cut.
Yea but we make 1200€ a month unless we move to big cities like madrid /barcelona then we make 2000€ and rent is 1300€ lmao
Me and my boyfriend went to 777 in Dublin on Saturday because we had a voucher. We knew it was gonna be expensive BUT we each got a main (one pork, one chicken). It was ridiculous. For €30, it was about a 120 gram piece of pork with a few small chopped pieces of peaches and half an avocado. Tasty but nothing special. The €25 chicken was a small chicken breast on the bone. Garnished with half a lime and some garlic mayonnaise. We were NOT full at all. Cocktails were €14. Even with a €50 voucher we still had to pay €17.50 EACH for the tiniest main course I have ever seen. Literally sickened after it, honestly the worst prices.
Average wage in Spain is €27k a year, average wage in Ireland is €45k.
Minimum wage in Spain is €7.82, minimum in Ireland in €11.30.
That looks very good, especially for the price.
Currently in Portugal, was out for dinner at a seafood restaurant in the harbor as a party of 5. Right after sitting down they give bread with a few spreads, algarve carrots, this little bowl of octopus bits etc (not counted toward the bill). One of us had 2 glasses of house red, three of the rest had a cocktail (they were very stiff cocktails) and we went through 3 bottles of water for the table. Food wise they had an option for all-you-can-eat fish, not buffet style but they’ll keep bringing you plates of fish as long as you keep asking. 2 of us had this option and the other 3 had a single serving each (the single serving of salmon was a full Darne). Everyone’s order came with a side dish of potatoes and a salsa/salad kind of thing. We were completely stuffed.
Bill comes at the end; €90 total for 5 people. €18 a head for as much fish as we could eat and on average, an alcoholic drink each. I couldn’t believe it. At home I would expect that to be at least 50% more expensive or close to ~€130
Two cans of pringles and a bottle of fanta
No compare salaries and input costs.
While it feels great – the average wage in Northern Spain is about 24k. Wine in Ireland is a ripoff due to tax reasons (white wine from Rioja/Galicia is down the road and not taxed to high heaven).
Those are pinchos, not tapas. You can see the “wooden stick” a.k.a “pincho”
But yes, very cheap compared with Ireland.
Spain is probably the cheapest place in western Europe for food and drink.
Even the French buy booze in Spain if they live near the border.
Was in San Sebastián recently and couldn’t get over how cheap it was for most things! A few minutes up the road in France and the prices felt like home!!
Hate how stingy bars are here with shorts as well; like everywhere else they will just horse the spirit in and then In Ireland and also the Uk they give you the measure and still charge more
Wait, is there a cost of living crises? Someone should have said something. I would have expected at least a couple of reddit posts about it…
Tapas in Ireland are just starter portions of main meals and priced somewhere between the two and A nice sounding word to attract cunts who take pictures of their food… Cunts
For 13 euro? A pint and if you’re lucky a bowl of chips.
2 coffees and a chicken sandwiche in o brians set me back 21 quid
Thats what you get when you don’t pay your servers a living wage.
Enjoy that meal, knowing that the person that served that to you wouldn’t be able to do it, without sacrificing something else that month.
