Yeah. And Baltic countries and Poland have been telling not to trust russia since the nineties as well but here we are… Probably russias money was more important than people lives
The tension was there but we shouldn’t dig up everything that points in the direction ‘we should have known’. That would draw a wrong and way too simple picture.
For example 2008 when ukraine didn’t get into NATO it was reasonable. Nobody knew back then if ukraine develops towards europe or towards russia. There was a lot of corruption, oligarchs, many people favorable towards russia,…

This really doesn’t surprise me, Nixon was a crook but not a total idiot (think Kissinger). I heard many times that Putin was quite intimidated by Clinton, and Clinton would laugh about it, he also never liked nor trusted Putin.
Whats a PTA garden party?
For all his faults, Nixon had remarkable foresight. He wanted a new Marshall Plan for the former Soviet bloc; had he gotten his way, Russia and other former Soviet republics might have turned out better.
And most eastern europeans warned westerners about russia. Don’t need to be a shitty past president.
And Clinton convinced Ukraine that they would be protected if they got rid of their nukes.
