> Judge Orla Crowe noted the man had not been expecting the blow
Those mitigating factors are ridiculous. That young man has 11 previous convictions including two previous for assault. How can they mitigate for remorse when hes assaulted someone before – TWICE!!
I’m not one of those “tough on crime” folks but come on this is a load of shite. Multiple previous convictions, including previous cases of assault and for this case, the person who was assaulted has endured life changing injuries to the extent that he hasn’t returned to work two years later, and the harshest sentence the judge can come up with is probation?
Not even community service or some kind of mandatory rehabilitation program? If someone over the age of 18 did that they’d be in prison for years no doubt about it
>The judge noted in mitigation the boy’s early guilty plea, his remorse, the support of his mother and a report indicating a diagnosis of ADHD. She took into account it was not a sustained attack and his young age at the time.
> She noted the Covid pandemic had “affected him very significantly” and he had come through a lot of adversity. She said his risk factors for reoffending included a negative peer group
That’s awful, I also couldn’t give a shit. Should every single criminal with mental health problems get this kind of treatment? My mental healths been up and down over the years so can I go out and punch someone in the face potentially inflicting life changing injuries on them? I could hear out an argument that prison time might be too harsh, especially for a teenager, but probation is taking the piss here
The scumbag nearly killed someone while also being a past offender for similar crimes and the punishment is a literal slap on the wrist? I don’t even want the kid to have their life ruined (our prison system would likely increase the chances of the kid being a repeat offender) because of a few stupid things they did as a teenager, but this is pure nonsense. There has to be some form of genuine accountability for a crime as serious as this
Victim should’ve told the judge they identified as American.
Disgrace from the judge
He should watch out. If he get caught doing this a few more times, he might end up with a suspended sentence.
Poor ‘lil tyke just needs hugs and after school activities. Obviously it’s our fault as taxpayers for not providing this already, we’re the real criminals here.

I’ve emigrated before
And I will again
This country has too much wrong with it to be fixed
