China’s blockade of Lithuania hits other EU exports, says trade commissioner

  1. I wonder if now that it is affecting other EU countries, the EU will finally help Lithuania or they’ll just sit on their hands as EU companies move production out of Lithuania.

I suspect the latter, but with a letter sent to China telling them they’re naughty.

  2. Where are those who parroted “Lithuania’s trade with China is almost irrelevant” last weeks?

  3. Just another day with EU allowing a 3rd country to kick it around. Always proud to be a european.

  4. First they came for the Lithuanians, and we did not speak out—

    Because we were not Lithuanian.

    ….

Or if you prefer stand together or fall apart.

  5. Why the fuck are we allowing China to tell us who we can trade with internally again? China losing the EU as a trading partner would be just as bad as the EU losing China as a trading partner, or even worse.

  6. Believe me or not whole world economy is in the hands of China. It is like addict and drug dealer relation. I had a course named “Resources and Environmental Sustainability” at university. Just one course was enough to see the monopoly of China in supply of many rare earth metals and other materials. China can crumble world economy by just stopping supply of 2 or 3 materials. Whole production in the world would stop if world even blockade China.

Our professor was member of European Commission, frequently traveling to China. The guy was always complaining about the situation of EU with China.

  7. Its depressing to see that EU does nothing to support Liethuania i dont remember single politican from my country even say word about it.

  8. Its kinda funny China can easily threaten internal EU trade.

The EU definitely needs some reforms protecting it.

  9. It’s not a blockade, it’s an embargo. Fucking hell I just corrected someone on this about Cuba a few days ago.

    >A blockade is the act of actively preventing a country or region from receiving or sending out food, supplies, weapons, or communications, and sometimes people, by military force. A blockade differs from an embargo or sanction, which are legal barriers to trade rather than physical barriers.

Let’s just call it what it is, instead of spreading misinformation to further a narrative. A lot of people actually think the USA has it’s navy encircling Cuba because of how frequently it gets mislabeled as a blockade.

  10. How about EU stops accepting shit made in China and we do it locally. Will be expensive and hard for some years but we will not be treated like peasants

  11. Time for other EU countries to welcome Taiwan opening an office in their respective capitals. Also time for EU to start pushing for some countermeasures. And most importantly it is time for China to realize she cannot bully EU member states without consequences.

  12. I think that the day is fast approaching where the EU will have to start putting “its money where its mouth is” (taking actions on their values instead of just saying them). For example, the Olympic boycott. Regardless of your opinion on it, some EU countries said they would instead “bring up human rights abuses during a meeting”. That’s obviously been so effective in the past, why not try it 50 more times and expect something new to happen? Meanwhile they continue to do full business with them.

Hopefully the day will come when EU values will be more than just a buzzword for politicians.

  13. If the EU won’t do anything asap, they just fuel the nazi movements in every country that want to get rid of the EU and “restore the country”.

Pretty sure they are already preparing plans for LEXIT.

  14. I think it would be logical to give China veto power over European Commission decisions. For that it would buy more VW and Continental

  15. China topics always get listed as one of the toppest 😂

It’s weird that when China is “bullying” the West, the West itself is fighting each other

  16. Of course it messes with everyone.

Perhaps if, across the board, a sanction was placed against ALL Chinese goods… just for a month.

Perhaps China would understand that it needs to play together with all the other children rather than “screw you, I’m going home with the ball”.

Let’s tank their economy completely. Seems fair.

  17. Australia closed the coal trade with China and this gived them an energy crisis.

Banning the trade of important resources to China from the EU, due to this threat, could make much worse things to China.

It is really up to the EU to make China to know its place and to make a big step to the human right problems there.

  18. Europe brutally colonised most of the world, including China, and now Europeans are crying because China is bullying them a little bit? Lol, suck it up you whiny little bitches. Historical justice is delicious.
