A heads up to folks who read local publications, Iconic Media (who own most of them) have been running AI ‘opinion’ articles using clickbait headlines that’ll definitely stoke the anti-immigrant crowds and cause a bitta ruckus. I’ve seen them shared on each of the papers Facebook pages, feels like an absolute joke. Can anything be done about this?

That’s fucking bleak. My local paper is shite and way overpriced for the actual content, but I’ve gone out of my way to support it over the years. Going to save that few quid in future, I will be damned if I’m paying for this junk.
Get used to it! Journalists are already using ChatGPT to help write their articles, it’s inevitable in time that AI will replace many of them.

“Can anything be done about this?”
Not much beyond not sending them traffic, not giving them views and warning others.
What’s worse than this is that they’re at least being open and honest about it being AI Generated. I’ve been seeing a few articles from American publications that are clearly written by AI but they stick a human name on them. And obviously we had that recent shite with the IT being stupid enough to run one.
Get on to your MEP, there’s already an act in the work on AI
Do computers have opinions?
If so, mine have a very poor view of me…
Isn’t a pretty standard tactic of media to present a particular (often controversial) opinion loudly, in an attempt to generate more attention and to bring both sides of the debate out of the woodwork?
Clickbait headlines have been doing it for ages.
The comment section of any news organisation has been doing it for ages.
Radio shows with any element of discussion or audience participation (call in, Text in, write in, etc) have been doing it for ages.
It’s just par for the course really.
Maybe I’m unusual in as much as I don’t really care. I consider AI to be just a tool. Overall, I have no problem whatsoever with AI generated articles or stories.
Aren’t the Longford leader and a number of other regional papers in the northwest managed by Joe Flaherty, the TD for Longford?
Modern journalists and especially their editors are some of the laziest cunts around.
It’s not been enough that for most of the past 10 years a lot of them have been able to coast by and regurgitate shite from Twitter as actual news so I’m not surprised to find they’re trying to make their job even easier by using ChatGPT to write articles for them.
The Journal have been doing it too with the weekly cinema posts, I caught them out on one of them but I don’t know if it’s been changed yet, you can tell by the way the language changes between cinema/theatre, also it always follows US release dates which are often very wrong!
