I have experienced the opposite of this. Train any day for me, not just if it is more convenient, you don’t have to pay for luggage, no hours of waiting, no overpriced sandwiches and drinks, you can look out the window and see where you are actually going. I went to Prague by train. About 60€, a plane ticket would have been 120€.
Sad truth.
I’d vote for (almost) whichever party in any election if they’d promise to make trains cheap and reliable.
It’s insane that if you want to take a train from Amsterdam to London it will take you there around 6 hours, which seems to be a lot but it puts you in the city center, so flying is pretty much equivalent on time.
That’ll cost you something like 160€ per person, the last time I checked, if you manage to get a ticket. Meanwhile Ryanair gave me the trip to London for 20 something €. A week in advance…
Any plane route that flies less than an hour should not exist, and anything that flies less than 2 hours should have a direct train competition, same price on the ticket with +4 hours of traveltime.
This is what Ive found personally. Cheaper and faster, even with getting to/from the airport. Id still prefer train travel, but just hard to justify.
True but I still prefer taking a train than a plane.
