Because the alternative is tolerating another lockdown
I’m sure the 200,000 cases a day and that vaccine-evading variant those doomsayers scientists were screaning about months ago are going to come any minute now.
Sky high rates is **irrelevant**. The only thing that matters is **HOSPITALISATIONS AND DEATHS**.
The Guardian is working overtime trying to make British people seem irresponsible compared to the rest of Europe.
Britain had a longer, comparatively calmer lockdown. Britain had much less anti mask movements than most of Europe. Britain has substantially less anti vaxxer sentiment than most of Europe.
British people basically did everything required of them to get through the crisis, and are now in a position of the virus being a terrible memory, but our lives being essentially back to normal, the virus being reduced to a minor cold with a statistically insignificant death rate.
We face a real crisis in our entire health infrastructure is now trying to catch up with everything that was ignored due to the focus on covid, but the Guardian is out here still fighting brexit by trying to make the U.K. seem irresponsible and the EU as the gold standard.
Get a fucking grip.
If a new variant evolves that puts us back into covid crisis, then the U.K. will deal with that, even if that means returning to lockdowns, masks, new vaccinations. Until this happens, stop using a hypothetical future scenario, and judging people’s current behaviour against that.
The Tories killing off their voter’s base seems short-sighted.
