There’s no way that I see the infrastructure being in place in time to do this
Easy to say, he won’t be in government when it is scheduled. Utterly unworkable policy.
I’m buying a couple petrol motorbike and cars to put away for the inevitable price hike and rarity once petrol cars start getting crushed.
What he really means is *”We’re going to get kicked out of power, let’s make the other lot take the flak for renouncing the policy…”*
Ultimately what the UK does here doesn’t matter. It’s what the EU does that will affect car manufacturers more. It’s not like they will continue to make ICE vehicles for a European market limited to the UK. But suspect we will try to be ahead.
Good, EVs are just better technology than fossil burners and industry needs certainty. Norway has shown the way and is already at BEV sales of 83.3% of the market. When Norway finally ban ICE sales, there will be so few happening that it will hardly be noticeable
Banning private jets would do more for the environment 👀
Because of course when everyone’s mortgage, bills and living costs are going through the roof, let’s force everyone to go out and spend 45 grand on a car in the name of an idealogy that will contribute approximately fuck all to global warming.
Electric vehicles aren’t green, entire forests are being removed and colossal amounts of diesel being burnt to mine & process the materials which aren’t recyclable in practice.
Just more money for the auto industry and trendy fashion statements for folk living in rich countries.
How’s the progress on hydrogen fuel cell technology? Is this a viable next step?
There’s no way this target is going to hit.
They can’t get the charging times down as it stands. There’s no current way people can charge up cars if they park on the road that doesn’t involve a cable dragged over it which is a court case waiting to happen.
There’s not even enough materials in the world to make the batteries let alone the time to make the batteries. There’s also the huge cost of an EV which I can’t see dropping, unless all the manufactures agree.
So by 2030 this EVs only or EVs and Hybrid isn’t going to work. Probably be pushed back to 2035 and then 2040.
