Interesting to notice that in my native [Romania](https://imgur.com/a/j2npV5E) food and beverages take top spot, then come expenditures with housing, because Romania has the highest rate of home ownership in Europe, and thus few pay rent compared to other EU countries.

So that must be from the income after taxes, as they are not included in the graph. So there must be some distortions, as e.g. healthcare costs are covered by taxes to different degrees in different countries.
I think it is wrong to put housing (rent, mortgages) in one category with utilities. Better separate them as the nature of expences is very different.

26%? Housing just on its own is 45% for me, make it 51% with electricity.
haha yeah in Luxembourg they spend 5% of their income on cigarettes even though they are dirt cheap compared to their wages.
For sure it’s not because you can carry up to 40 packs in the Schengen area and in France they cost 11 euro but in Luxembourg 5.
