‘Put learners first’: Unesco calls for global ban on smartphones in schools

  1. A UN organization advocating for global “bans” of anything in schools is exactly the wrong thing to do. There are only two people who should be able to ban a kid from having a phone at school, the teacher in the classroom and the individual’s legal guardian.

  2. > one in six countries had banned smartphones in school, either through law or guidance. These included France, which introduced its policy in 2018, and the Netherlands, which will bring in restrictions from 2024.

These are not countries you can ignore.

  3. No one has the power to institute a “global ban” on anything, and especially not the UN. They really ought to stop saying this nonsense, and journalists really ought to stop reporting it.
