Hi! Hungarians of Reddit, as a currency collector, I would love to know can any of these notes still be used in Hungary these days / do you ever see them in circulation? If not, when was about the last time you saw them floating around in change or ATMs? Thank you for any info!

  1. It is still in circulation. I would spend it very fast if I were you because soon it will worth only 1.50 euro

  2. I have not seen any of these notes in circulation for years neither as change and definitely not from an ATM as their central issue date has long passed. As a collector I think you are almost certainly not likely to come across one and if you have any I think you have to take them to the bank as shops won’t accept them any more.

  3. 500 and 2000 is kinda rare because you cant get them from atms

  4. All of them is in use. The 5000 huf note is golden now.

  5. Because people already gave u an answere, here is a something u didn’t asked for: who these people are in a notshell:
500 – II. Rákóczi Ferenc. Leader of a revolution against the Habsburg dynasty from 1703 to 1711.
1000 – Mátyás király – Also know as Mátyás the Just. King of Hungary 1458 – 1490.
2000 – Bethlen Gábor – Leader of Erdély (Transilvania) 1613 – 1629. He was also king of Hungary for a brief time.
5000 – Széchenyi István. Politician and Nobleman from the 19. centutry, who invested/donated a lot into modernising the country.
10000 – I. Szent István (Saint Stephen the first) the first king of Hungary. (1000-1038)
20000 – Deák Ferenc. Politician from the 19. centutry. One of the key members of reorganising the Habsburg empire into the Austro-Hungarian empire.
