Children alleging sexual assaults in one of State’s poorest areas waiting over a year for social worker assessments

This is shocking and shameful. It seems that every day I’m reading about some sort of sexual offence against a child. We are letting our children down badly. We’ve been doing it for decades what with the mother and baby homes, “Christian Brothers”, Catholic Priests, adults in care of children etc. it’s sickening and shameful. In a land of Saints and Scholars should we add another S to that in Sexual predators!!
Not enough is being done to combat this in Irish society, not enough resources being allocated to the services meant to protect children. Legislation not strict enough to prevent it happening. Children victim of abuse should never have to wait to be seen by professionals. It shouldn’t even be an issue.
I hate to think it but per capita I would suggest that Ireland is near the top of sexual crimes per head of population.
Are we proud of this ?
We as a society are letting our children and others down by not speaking up. By not demanding change and by not canvassing our elected representatives to do more.

Severe shortages of people everywhere to fill roles
It’s not a surprise really. There aren’t enough social workers and they aren’t supported well enough / too much paperwork for them to do a real job. This has been well known for decades really. Why are people acting surprised about all the recent things in the media about this.
It’s awful in this country that we STILL can’t take care of the most vulnerable, I hate to suggest this but it seems the only way to get things done is to keep contacting local TDs with requests for help. It shouldn’t be this way, but…. Ireland.
This is where there should be more outrage. This is what can lead to anti social behaviour and drug abuse. Little kids feeling left behind and uncared for. They then get angry and take it out on the world or they try to burry it with drink and if that doesn’t work drugs.
This can spiral to being kicked out of school and suddenly no support at home, no other adult looking out for them.
