As bureaucratic as it is, they have rules for entry and they are there for a purpose. Most people want Ukraine to be in the EU, it’ll be good for them and the wider community over time. But it needs to follow the same process that everyone else does.
It will probably happen, eventually, but don’t expect it to happen overnight, as much as Zelenskyy wants an accelerated procedure.
Ukraine joining will have an impact on the GDP per capita of the EU. A near 10% increase in population. And without being in NATO puts the union at risk with the continued war. We have to admit that Ukraine still has an issue with corruption… That needs to be dealt with otherwise they might become another Hungary in the near future. And it’s right and proper that Zelenskyy is doing his best to do so, but it will take time.
I sorely WANT Ukraine to join the EU as much as I wish the UK never left, and I’m certain that Ukraine will do so one day. But now it’s not the time.
Let’s just stop with the EU and Nato talk for a while, OK? This is taking attention away from what Ukraine really needs right now and there is no need to discuss it at this point.
Let’s focus on the support Ukraine badly needs right now. Are they getting it? Who is blocking it? Anyone publicly promising things but behind closed doors sabotaging? Do the fighters in the front line have all the protective/hygienic/medical equipment they need?

that’s not how it works though…
The EU can’t just say “oh go on then”.

That’s what I care about.
