  1. Silly season I’m aware but this perhaps the silliest quote I’ve heard from a politician in a while

    > “But this is all the more reason that top executives and daa should be at the forefront of climate change and how we do business,” he said.

The sole reason for DAA’s existence is to support one of the most polluting modes of transport.

Dalton Phillips could be burning tractor tires in his back yard and it would be insignificant in comparison to the emission DAA is responsible for.

  2. If these CEOs are earning big bucks they can afford their own luxury vehicle. It is yet another case of semi-states and gov. entities acting as if they’re private companies.

If they have to have a company car, then it should be as cheap as possible ,say a Dachia or a Nissan Leaf.

  3. Fergus O’Dowd is going to freak out when he discovers what other large company CEO’s drive.

  4. Ford Mustang for the Dublin Bus guy on 200k. Family medical insurinance worth 10k for the Shannon person. But at least it’s not a Renault hah?

  5. The realityof the situation is that CEO of any multiple million company is going to be well paid. with benefits.

The fact the a TD jumps in regarding the car is laughable. What about all the benefits that TD’s get, all the expenses that they can claim, what about the fact that TD’s can leave the public sector but still hold jobs, like teaching, what about the fact the they don’t have to turn up in the Dail if they don’t want too… the list goes on and on – this TD is just trying to play the popular vote and get some people on side.

I believe last year a report showed only 3 out of 17 government cars were electric – wonder why he never brought that up??

  6. Massive salaries and still get company cars, fucking disgusting.

  7. >The authority confirmed to RTÉ’s Morning Ireland that it spent €117,000 on a three-litre Land Rover Range Rover Sport Diesel SUV for its then CEO Dalton Philips; the use of the car was on top of his salary and pension.

Hold on: did they buy the car? If that’s the case, that would be the bigger issue in my eyes.

  8. Freshing for a FG spokesperson taking the climate angle on the complaint. Yes sometimes company cars are warranted for positions. But as a rule we shouldn’t allow public company cars to be non-electric anymore.

Also, it’s clear that a 117k company car being part of his contract was a sweetener to circumvent public sector pay caps.

Not sure how somebody in the department of finance justifies that expenditure. I need a car to get to and from work, it’s just expected I be able to get to work when im expected. I think these days we should be going after the person who signs for these terrible financial decisions.

  9. It’s rotten to the core the top management of semi-states and public service
