Ah yes the poor landlords, the true victims of the housing mess
I know this won’t be a popular move here, but I can see why it’s being done.
There’s a risk that if new efficiency measures are pushed too far too fast, that landlords will stop renting their properties altogether, reducing availability of rental properties (where there are already massive shortages in some areas).
Depending on the property it can be incredibly expensive to improve a property from EPC Band E (the current minimum) to C (the proposed minimum), and there’s a real risk of unintended side effects.
How about no! Stop protecting landlord investments, if they cant afford to comply with standards then they shouldnt have the assets to begin with. This is exactly why allowing rentals when you’re mortgaged is stupid.
All this means is higher bills for renters because of course costs gets passed on to them.
Ahh yes, high rents and high energy costs for us renters.
Anything to save the struggling landlord.
So just bonfire anything that doesn’t help the wealthy then.
They aren’t even being subtle anymore.
