  1. Of course. Russia merely protects its national interests from the numerous enemies surrounding it, as a result of which Russian peacekeepers end up patrolling Russia’s backyard currently used for NATO military provocations. Nothing aggressive about that, you Western imperalists.

  2. Every year I write on my friend’s Christmas cards “I don’t intend to murder you next year, Merry Christmas!”.

  3. “But whatabout those troops in Ukraine border?”
“But comrade, didn’t you know that Ukraine is really a part of Russia? Maybe one day you will be part of us too so….”

  4. That’s nice Vlad, you know what would be even better? That you wouldn’t deem it necessary to give such reassurances to your neighbors in the first place.

  5. (*) Consult your local Russian embassy, oligarch, or Russian supported militia for terms and conditions. Offer may be void in Donetsk-Luhansk, Crimea, Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Tactical nuclear missiles are not included.

  6. Well, this is certainly better than them saying they’ll invade in 2022, so I’ll take this positively.

  7. Are those some carrots-and-sticks-strategy ? Appearing to de-escalate while looking for an opening, very sketchy… . Lets see if russia really means it

  8. Niemand hat die Absicht, eine Mauer zu errichten! (We do not intend to build a wall)

(East German politician shortly before they began building the Berlin Wall)

  9. I am the Russian ambassador and I can confirm that we won’t commit aggressive actions against any of the countries we consider our neighbours: Sweden, The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, China and Canada.

The protections offered under this statement require proactive recognition of Russia as a de jure and de facto neighbor in international forums such as the UN. Please note that the list of neighbors may be subject to change in subsequent years.
