Today, 78 years ago, the United Kingdom general election of 1945 took place, where the Labour Party won by a landslide, removing Winston Churchill from power, and thus Clement Attlee became Prime Minister. The election took place before the end of the Pacific War on August 15, 1945.

1. The Conservatives were banking on Churchill’s popularity, he couldn’t even win the army vote.
