Anglo–Saxon England

  1. That seems like a very current day English Nat view on history. The truth was there were many tribes of Angles and Saxons and Jutes who sometimes got on well and sometimes did not. There were several distinct kingdoms which are not distinguished on this map. The unity implied by the shading is a myth.

And in some of the discussion on the Vikings I feel there is a distinct attempt to fit tribal names to present day political geography. Do distinctions have to be drawn between Danes, Norse, Northmen, and Normans. We’ll OK about the last one.
