Andrew Malkinson: Why are some wrongfully convicted prisoners charged jail living costs?

  1. The treatment and compensation of wrongfully convicted people is shockingly bad, the fights they have to get recompense is just ludicrous. I hope Mr Malkinson finds peace – and receives justice.

  3. Absolutely shocking that someone falsely convicted has to pay for the privilege of living in prison. Also £1m maximum for sentences over 10 years is insanely low, how long ago did they come up with that figure?

  4. Charging wrongfully convicted people for the time they spent in prison is beyond obscene.

    I’m hard pressed to name any other country that pulls this level of BS.

  5. The mind boggles as to how any of this is fair. First, £1m for ten years of your life is woefully inadequate and inappropriate. Second, bed and board? There are no words to describe the injustice of such a levy.
