  1. TLDR:

Ukraine had an publicly accessible online register for asset declarations which showed how wealthy officials are and what they own.

The system is a key part in combating corruption. But it was effectively cancelled since February last year.

In September 2022 Ukraine promised to restore the asset declaration system, but no progress has been made.

Western partners (G7, EU and IMF) and civil society have urged politicians to restore the system.

    >But officials are dragging their feet because they are afraid of society seeing their hidden wealth before the next elections, Shcherban said.“Their main goal is to prevent society from seeing their declarations,” she added.

PS: before people say this is anti Ukrainian.

You can support Ukrainian statehood and its military and its economy and its civil society.

Whilst at the same time criticizing its government, corrupt politicians, corrupt judges, entrenched soviet military thinking in older officers, etc, etc.

You dont need to be a yes men.

  2. This type of article continues to show up again & again. It’s an insidious way of cracking the door on ruZZia propaganda by saying you can support & criticize at the same time. All countries have criminals. Asking law abiding citizens to declare their wealth just makes them a target for criminals if this is public information. The government knows how much you make, when you pay your taxes. There is no need for everyone to be up in your private business!
