>Chris Hopson, the chief executive of NHS Providers, said that at one hospital trust in England, 40 midwives were refusing to get jabbed, raising fears that the maternity unit may have to close.

What a stupid hill to throw your career away on.
I remain convinced that the vaccination mandate will be quietly removed before it is due to come in force in April. By then (hopefully) the omicron wave will have passed and the vaccination mandate will have increased uptake amongst NHS staff. They will then remove the mandate to avoid sacking the remaining holdouts. I think a lot of the holdouts will be thinking the same. As it stands I think very few unvaccinated staff actually believe they will be sacked.
surely UNISON should weigh into this now, suspend or remove membership for the unvaccinated?
Speaking as a member of the public having recently been in hospital and have spoken to lots of nurses, I can say that a fair few of them are still not double jabbed, and there seems to be an “us vs them” mentality when it comes down to the brass tacks.
One nurse openly admitted to not getting it because she likes being part of a larger cabal of other nurses/health workers and she thought she might get better wages/hours from a better negotiating position. (Facepalm)
No love. Your going to get the sack, but worse, you will probably pass on covid to your patients much more frequently than you would if you had the jab. Pretty sure “First, Do no harm” is the mandate of all medical professionals.
Until the disinformation and social media trolls move on to a different subject, nothing will change about anti-vax and its prevalence in our society.
Healthcare workers who dont believe in health care?
What else don’t they believe in paracetamol?
Wait how the fuck do staff working in healthcare not get the vaccination? Fucking hell lol, Darwin award right there
Put them in their own wards. Have the unvaccinated treat the unvaccinated.
If health workers are against being vaccinated and keeping their patients safe, they should not be working in health care!
Yeah this is why vaccine mandates are a stupid idea. Let’s close hospital units and deny people the healthcare they need to own the anti vaxxers.
Perhaps they have seen things we haven’t been told… 40k refusals seems a lot especially given the group involved tbh
Irony is they need the jab less than anyone. Working in hospital will have exposed them to covid so often that their immune systems will be constantly fighting off infection and topping up antibodies. Policy by what feels right, rather than what is scientific.
This article is really thin on details if you read it. One unit has 40 unvaccinated midwives… that’s the only example
If you want to work eith the sick and vulnerable, then you need to stay healthy yourself.
If you don’t get the jab, the stop wearing PPE, washing your hands, bring back smoking. Agreeing to do everything in that list but saying no to a vaccine is fucking ludicrous.
I’d assume it’s less about this specific vaccine, and more about government overreach. I’m not ok with government mandated medicine of any kind, even if this is beneficial for everyone now, it’s dangerous precedent to lose bodily autonomy like that.
In short, I can’t trust that this power won’t be misused in the future by even worse governments than we already have…
