Здравейте, извинете аз не говоря на български. I don’t mean to offend anyone, but I was genuinely curious. I have read many news posts in Bulgaria about various incidents where the perpetrators are often released after an arrest with some monetary guarantee.
I don’t usually follow the news, in fact I actively avoid it, and don’t get me wrong I have had only good experiences in Bulgaria and with Bulgarian people.
But reading the translated version of this article made some questions pop up in my head.
The perpetrator of this attack in the news link that I am sharing was let go after sometime with a monetary guarantee, albeit there will of course be an investigation. But what are the prison sentences here in Bulgaria? If say you are being attacked, is it better to call the police or use whatever force necessary to either escape such a situation or incapacitate the attacker since they will be dealt lightly by the law anyway or that is not the case and the prison sentences and laws are harsh here?
If there is a burglary in your apartment and you use lethal force to protect yourself, is that counted as an offence?
If you help someone in an accident on the road will you be held by the police for questioning or is there some kind of Samaritan law here?
Sorry, my questions are a bit unstructured and essentially they are law related questions.

If you defend your home from an attack you will not be charged. If you help someone in an accident you will not be charged.
The guy from the article is probably getting 20-30 tears or life in prison.
Жените в България ги бият, изтезават и убиват, но поне не се говори за джендъри в училищата!
Малка цена, която хората, които не страдат, са готови да платят, за да ни опазят.
You can check Article 12 of the Bulgarian Criminal Code: [https://www.globalwps.org/data/BGR/files/Criminal%20Code.pdf](https://www.globalwps.org/data/BGR/files/Criminal%20Code.pdf)
The idiot in the article wasn’t let go, though. It’s not written that he was let go, it’s just written that the two different courts, gave two different sentences. It’s a long process. He is still arrested and not roaming around free.
