How about making healthy food cheaper, and making it easier for people to have time to exercise rather than just make junk food more expensive
I’m not sure that affordability (one of the main focuses of this article) is the main thing. Fresh fruit and veg is actually pretty attainable compared to many of the junk options.
What people (and especially less well off people) really are short of though is time. If you’ve been working a long day (maybe even a second job), have children to look after and other responsibilities at home, I can understand why someone might whack a ready meal or pizza in the oven rather than cook something healthy and nutritious from scratch.
I don’t know how we can solve that without major societal changes, though.
When are they going to understand that it has nothing to do with junk food? Cheap, accessible food is usually low quality and packed with salt or sugar. The cost of living is rising higher and higher, and most families can’t afford to eat well. When you’re feeding a family of 3+ on £40 a week, you get what you get.
Easist thing they can do :
Make 4 day weeks mandatory so we’re not so fucking tired by Friday night that the thought of lifting weights or running around like a maniac doesn’t seem like torture.
Doesn’t also help that many people simply don’t have the time for leisure activities anymore.
By the time both working partners have gotten home from work, the chances of them wanting to then exert themselves even more are direly low.
