Turkish central bank predicts inflation will soar close to 60% by year-end

  1. > Turkey’s new central bank chief has vowed to continue taking “gradual and decisive” steps to slow price growth, even as she acknowledged inflation was set to soar to almost 60 per cent by year-end. 

    > Hafize Gaye Erkan said inflation would reach 58 per cent by December, compared with a previous forecast of just over 22 per cent. Erkan, who on Thursday gave her first major press conference since she was appointed in June, said the lira’s tumble this year, sharply rising food prices and big rises in the minimum wage would fuel the rise in price growth. 

  2. Doubled interest rates in the past two months ? So has Erdogan finally relinquished the Coran strategy used so far in their economics and actually takes steps to kill demand and hopefully reduce the sky-high inflation eventually?
