Congratulations to Europe for successfully launching the JWST.
You have to admire the Americans and French, when it comes to space. Extreme competence and big thinking. Hopefully ESA can match NASA’s reach and ambition some day. Would be incredible to see a European be first on Mars for example.
Beautiful to see the launch. Wished we’d get a bit more camera views instead of rendered video but yeah. Beautiful none the less.
Ariane 5 once again performing like clockwork. Congratulations France, and all ESA member nations.
My hands are so moist. The pressure on the people who are working over there must be enormous.
Crossing my fingers that everything will go as planned, I really want to see what this telescope will reveal in the coming years.
Séparation! Go Webb!
Tremendous achievement of ESA, NASA. Great to see the reliability of ESAs Ariane 5 rocket.
I hope my fellow Europeans realize how lucky we are to have a space industry and the French Guiana spaceport at its core.
French overseas departments and territories deserve more European love that they get. Please read about them and book holidays there! You can see the Amazon rainforest, the world’s most active volcano and a lagoon within a lagoon all while staying in the EU and using euros, no visa needed. You can also be an Erasmus student there – and even if you are not into tropical or marine biology!
Anyone knows why NASA used an Ariane 5 rocket for this mission? I’m genuinely curious; is this the biggest rocket available?
Anyone watching the live stream, with the God sermon?!
Still can’t believe it happened! The engineers and scientists did a terrific job. Now let’s hope the telescope’s parts will unfold without faults.
Awesome news!
Go Webb, Go!
Now for a month of white knuckling, and six months of buoyant anticipation
Go Webb Go
Once everything is successfully in place how long before it bares fruit and gives us something to look at?
YEAH BABYYY!!!!! LET’S GOOOOO!!!
I was glad to see footage that showed all was well after launcher separation; at least they didn’t forget the luggage. So far so good.

Amazing what we can do when we work together.
I’m really exited about what new things that telescope will find. (assuming everything goes as planned ofc)
I have a book from early 2000s in which it was said this telescope would launch in 2011. I never expected that i would graduate from school before this thing would finally launch.
Imagine if we spend 10% of army spending on space exploration.
This has been *the* most exciting project I’ve been looking forward to in my lifetime. Feel so lucky to be able to witness this amazing product of science and engineering finally come to fruition – such a big leap for mankind. Watching it get launched today was incredibly emotional; can’t wait to see what it finds!!
Finally, it feels like this took forever!
Watched it live on the Christmas table
It will take 30 days for it to reach L2 but only 3 days to make the first quarter of the distance. Thats about where the moon is. So it is going pass the moon the day after tomorrow.

What does it do?
But it is not supposed to be in orbit!
Ad Astra Per Aspera!
