I mean I’m not against genetic modification – but this is a weird story.
Purple tomatoes already exist and have done for years. There are numerous “heirloom variety” tomatoes that are purple and quite a few modern cross varieties already, none of which are GM.
I’ve got 5 different varieties growing in the garden right now, ranging from pretty shit and disappointing to heavy croppers (at least as good as my normal cherry toms).

Tomatoes aren’t all red?
They come in a range of colours, red, orange, yellow, purple, striped, and even green (when ripe).
Our shops pretty much only stock intensively farmed red tomatoes and completely ignore the thousands of yellow, striped or other varieties of tomato as it is.
