I’m staying in your lovely country for a week and cooking most of the time. I’ve noticed grocery prices are insane here. Coming from Netherlands where we have our fair share of high grocery prices, this surprises even myself. Some highlights that I saw

Single Avocado €1.19 at lidl
Barilla canned pesto €5,69 at Konzum
This photo costed €21,35.

I’m not complaining as it is not my right to do so. I’m just surprised that simple things cost this much. Is it because I’m in a holiday area?

  1. No, that’s just what being poor(er) country means. Prices high, income low.

If we had low prices, we would be rich.

  2. There are cheaper alternatives to everything you bought

  3. Could be Because od Holiday area, But the groceries in whole country Are more expensive than the whole EU

  4. Lidl should have the same prices in the whole country. But other shops on the coast jack up prices during turist season.

That said, yes, food is crazy expensive in Croatia taking in account our wages. And quality is often subpar compared to Western countries.

But what can we do about it?

  5. it’s like you went on buying sneakers and you buy air jordans and then you wonder how expensive they are comparing to emaks. jebate ovoliko brendiranog luksuza moja guzica nije osjetila od svjetskog ‘98.

  6. Ah, još jedan “nizozemac” i još jedna rasprava o cijenama… kako vam ne dosadi

  7. It is almost the same in the whole country, those prices seem 0.1-0.2€ higher:

Like someone said you can find some things much cheaper, for example,
that chicken fillets for half of the price in the same store:

But overall yes, inflation and prices are crazy atm.

  8. Well , to counter it we have 70% lower salaries than you guys… :)/s

  9. The prices are this high in most of the country, unfortunately. It sucks.
