  1. ‘I can’t believe they used my stock image on this story’ woman later complains on r/compoface

  2. This is going to lead to higher rates of domestic violence and murder.

  3. Lenders’ rising rates in a cost-of-living crisis is influencing choices about living standards:^1

    >Data from Stowe Family Law discovered a third of Britons are staying in their relationship due to being unable to afford to live on their own while mortgage rates skyrocket.

    >The UK’s largest family law firm, which polled over 600 Britons aged between 25 and 75, found a quarter of people said although they would be able to afford living costs if they lived alone, their standard of life would radically decline if they did not generate more income.

    >[…]

    >Women made up 63 per cent of those polled, while men constituted 37 per cent.

A third of Britons? What are they on about?

Isn’t this poll just saying that a certain number of people couldn’t necessarily afford to live alone without a reduction in living standards? Not that they are considering leaving their partner but feel trapped?

  5. So my folks got divorced twice each in the eighties/nineties, both in decent jobs but nothing spectacular, just breezed off to buy new houses, all good.

Try breaking up nowadays – life of poverty awaits.

Source – my failing marriage, 2 kids and no clue how we can do anything that won’t seriously destroy our kids quality of life

  6. I can attest to this.

We live in what was a very cheap town 2 years ago.

1 bed houses & flats were roughly 550.

    2 beds were 650-700.

    3 beds were averaging 750-900.

My rent has only gone up to 685 because of ongoing issues. Rising Damp, mould, rotting beams and Fraying carpets. We dare not say anything incase it went up.

I found out my partner was having a 1+ affair. I broke it off and went house hunting.

Now the one beds are averaging £650+.

    2 beds are £800+

    3 beds are £900.

My rent and bills each month already come to £1394 a month without my car costs. My take home was only £1500

We used her salary as a bit of spending money and savings for a mortgage, but there’s no way i can do it alone on my salary.

There’s not even any family either of us can move back to. Now I sleep in the office and she has the main room.

  7. The people on this sub who oppose Mass construction of housing are objectively pro-domestic-abuse and misery.

This is what Brits vote for.

  8. Everyone should build an annex in their grandparents back garden. See how many Tory voters object to that little house building campaign. Not many.
