Hi,

I have a few questions regarding Saltbox roof structure . For those who don’t know, saltbox roof is basically a roof with two asymmetrical pitches (see example picture)

In principle, I don’t get why someone would opt for this structure when you can just raise the wall height and go for symmetrical gable roof. This way, you don’t get rooms with sloping walls on the top floor and the attic space is also increased. Both types of roofs can handle snow and rain.

Now to my question, how difficult and expensive would be to raise the walls in an altbau and replace the roof with a symmetrical gable roof? The area of the top floor is approximately 80 m2
