  1. The overpayments occurred over many years, and 72% has already been recovered.

So that’s around €5-6m a year lost out of a social protection budget of tens of billions.

  2. How long were they on jobseekers to receive that?

  3. >Another person wrongly received €299,989 in jobseekers’ allowance, while a similar case involving the same type of payment was valued at €282,881 in overpayment.

how is that even possible, its more than a 30 year back payment!!!! when most people only work 45 years in their life

  4. > Overpayments can occur where a person provides false or misleading information in their application or **through error on the part of** either the claimant or **the department.**

There’s no breakdown within this to say how much was fraud.

  5. Over 70% reclaimed

But how in the fuck does this happen?

Especially since I remember what it was like getting jobseekers 10 years ago (the worst time of my life)

I put it down to hiring incompetent people in the social welfare office cause I never would have gotten away with BS claims with the amount of means tests, visits and stuff I had to do so they wouldn’t stop my payment.

  6. Is this the old Irish/english version of your name scam?

  7. The Irish bank bailout of 2008 was €64 billion to unsecured bond holders let’s not forget that, if you’d like to be angry.

  8. I was over paid €79.25 in 2021 and they haven’t stopped sending letters about it.

Glad to see they’re on top of everything else.
