Today marks the 79th anniversary of Warsaw Uprising – the largest military effort taken by resistance during WWII. 63 days of fighting against Nazi Germany resulted in the loss of around 200,000 lives. Upon capitulation, Warsaw was razed to the ground by the invaders.

  1. Warsaw’s population at the beginning of September 1939 was around 1,300,000. In August 1944, 900,000 people lived in the city. After the uprising, less than 1000 people stayed among the ruins.

  2. And now the same thing is happening in Ukraine 😥

  3. It is worth remembering that many criminals responsible for the murder of thousands of civilians have never been held accountable for their crimes. Instead, they enjoyed political careers in the new free democratic Germany. There are many such stories known, eg [Heinz Reinefarth](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heinz_Reinefarth) – known as Executioner of Wola (Warsaw District) – number of victims from 50k to 100k. He was never held responsible for the crimes.
