Hello, i am going to leuven for a drink soon but it seems there are so few cafés outside the oude markt. i’m going by train and i dont want to cross the entire city with the weather these days. Maybe i am looking on the wrong source (google maps). i was looking into cafés with a decent beer menu i found this https://www.reizen-en-reistips.nl/5-leuke-biercafes-in-leuven/ but 2 of the 5 have been changed in a KFC and a Burger king. (what a shame)

any recommendations (that are not in my link) and possible a bit closer to the train station (and open on monday)?

thanks

  1. Not to be an ass, but the whole city of Leuven is truly small. Worst case scenario you can get any bus at the train station and stop at fosh plein.

  2. You got several bars across the station. I don’t know what their worth.

  3. Cafe sport is right next to the station. Jeeskesboom and Marengo are not that much further. Leuven still has plenty good bars outside of oude markt. I would avoid oude markt altogether, the best bars where you find the locals are elsewhere.

  4. Leuven is really small, it’s just a 15min walk to the oude markt (there’s plenty of busses as well).

If you really just want a quick beer, there’s places just accross the station on the martelarenplein, like Den ouden tijd or Cafe sport that would do just fine and have some options (just do a quick walk by them and see which one looks best to you).

However, if you want to see what Leuven is all about, I would recommend to try and get to the oude markt anyway as you won’t find that athmosphere in many other places… would recommend Cafe Belge there.
