  2. I reaaaalllly hope this is gamesmanship and that training has been going on for months now.

    It seems ridiculous to have all these announcements of ok countries get on board, ok now US approves, now, dates are being set, ok now dates are close to being set to begin training… ok we’re finalizing the plan to have a date to begin training…

  11. So everyone has been spreading misinformation regarding pilot training, pilots haven’t been training for the last 2 months.

  13. So if we clear away all the conjecture and bad reporting the process of getting F-16’s was heavily affected by 3 or 4 stages.

    One; The wrong assumption that Ukraine would quickly lose the war so work didn’t start on the F-16 idea until after Ukraine pushed Russian forces back showed everyone they could hold their own.

    Two; Ukrainian pilots had to be trained and the logistical support system for the planes had to be grown from scratch.

    Three; It has to be assumed that some of the F-16’s will be shot down and seized by Russian forces so the F-16’s have to be altered to remove sensitive equipment and replace those systems with technology that the Russians can’t steal.

    Four; Bureaucratic red tape. European nation; “I can’t lose my airpower so If I give my F-16’s to Ukraine will I be able to replace them with F-35’s?” “U.S.; “Yes”. European nation; “Ok let’s build the infrastructure for an increase in F-35 procurement.” U.S.; Ok let’s do this”.

    These realities are why F-16’s weren’t simply handed over.

  20. Were there not articles that said that Ukrainian pilots were already training on the f-16? Or perhaps it was simulators..
    Either way.. I have a feeling this may be a mislead.

  22. So much for being the “Leader” of the free world if we’re sitting back waiting for someone else to do something. I’d much rather have begun training a year ago and then waited to decide on deploying the fighters than sit back and contemplate doing something for a year.
