I can’t find any details on how I could live in norway for a year.
I am a UK citizen, and am planning on taking a gap year in Norway (summer 2024 – summer 2025) living through Workaway.
If you’re not sure what Workaway is, it’s a company that allows you to work for people informally in return for accommodation/food/money. It’s designed for backpackers and travellers. I’m not sure if this requires a work visa.

I can’t find any details on what visa/permit I need to apply for. The Norsk embassy here in the UK is supposedly terrible, and does not communicate with the majority of their clients.
I would truly appreciate any help or thoughts you guys might have!

Work immigration is the only thing that would fit your situation. Don’t have working holiday visas like Canada/Aus in Norway
I can almost guarantee you won’t be able to get a work visa. There are visas for seasonal work, but a whole year isn’t a season. In addition to this, work visas are dependant on having a job already secured before you come and them sponsoring your application.
Also, your visa is tied to that specific job/sector, so your ability to travel would be pretty limited if that was your main objective as it has to be a full-time job.
You will also need to pay a load of fees for the application/bureaucracy. I think I’ve paid around £2000 for everything. You can thank Brexit for this. Before, we didn’t even need to think about it. Literally get on a plane and turn up to a police station and we were done.
If you, as a UK citizen want to work in a cold, mountanous, nature-full area that you’ll legally be allowed to live in for a year, I suggest trying the Scottish Highlands, New Zealand or Canada.
