Look at Africa flipping to autocracies under Russian influence. Is that what we want for our kids, Russian World?
So many talk about russia winning this. What’s happening?
While the general western populace sadly doesn’t seem to care much about the war (most people I know barely have an idea of what’s going on), I fully believe western militaries and politicians are smarter than people give them credit for.
If Russia wins, it will grow stronger while almost certainly aligning with China to form a dangerous partnership. China has the people and industry, Russia has endless natural resources and food. This would be a geopolitical disaster for the west, and for US hegemony.
Crippling Russia is absolutely a strategic goal for the west, without provoking nuclear war. An extremely fine line to walk but I don’t think nations will lose interest even if populations do. Western propaganda is much more subtle but has succeeded in securing long-term passive support from the populace.
I don’t believe the comments made by a few western leaders that Ukraine should show more gratitude were *personal*. Those comments were likely made because Ukraine’s positive public image is vital to maintaining the “passive support” from western (especially European) civilians, which have silently accepted a significant financial setback for 1.5 years so far, and we need to keep it that way until Ukraine wins.
I know financial hurdles cannot compare to what Ukraine is facing, but sadly most people think of their own short term wellbeing first. In a way it might actually be good that most are ignorant.
