    Zozulya, the cuckoo, is a very special spirit in Ukrainian folklore. “A Cuckoo Flew Over My House” actually has some coded meaning here… as Zozulya was a spirit that could portend doom or other ill events, her flying over your house is an omen indeed.

    We wrote all about Zozulya in [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/ukraine/comments/yz39rr/718_eest_the_sun_is_rising_on_the_269th_day_of/), and we included the song’s lyrics, but that was before we had the capability to do translation videos 🙂 I hope you enjoyed the video today, it was fun for us to put it together. We used mostly pics from previous sunrise posts.

    In this video, you can hear the Ukrainian folk group *Drevo*, who hail from Poltava in central Ukraine. It was recorded in 1980 and I’ve always loved this recording. It’s not easy to find a translation of this song in English, so now you are in the know 😉
