Prince Andrew’s Lawyer Argues Virginia Giuffre Was Old Enough to Consent Under New York Law

  1. So now it is going from “I’ve never met nor had sex with her” to “she was old enough to consent for sex therefore I didn’t break any laws”.

  2. But he reliably informed us all he was at pizza express in Woking and had never met her!

Could this upstanding pillar of the royal family possibly be… Lying?!

  3. Obviously. However the issue is that she was trafficked for the purposes of prostitution and that made having sex with her an act of rape.

  4. This is par for the course in legal proceedings, you can advance multiple points in defence of your client.

Your primary position would be X didn’t do Y, but you’d plead in the alternative that even if it is proven that X did Y, this wouldn’t lead to legal culpability because A B C.

The lawyer is just doing their job.

  5. So it went from having dinner at pizza express to she consented and is fine on a potential technicality. Guess that makes it alright, hein Andrew?

  6. Not sure why the Met aren’t jumping in to give them legal council and remind them that police forces don’t investigate crimes in the past? This is surely valuable information his defence team is missing out on?

  7. The dodgy thing about this is that he doesn’t have to admit ever meeting her if they can attack the law in which she is persuing him. It all becomes moot.

  8. It isn’t unusual for under 18s to be given more protection under the law than just the age of consent.

In the UK it is illegal to possess pornographic images of someone under 18, or to pay for sex with someone under 18. I think most people understand why such laws are a good thing.

For an extremely wealthy, extremely privileged, 60 year old bloke to argue that it *isn’t fair* that the law offers extra protections to a 17 year old girl is, well, an unusual take.

  9. She was old enough to consent to sex under *British* law, too. That’s beside the point, though, because regardless of where it happened she was too young to legally consent to any form of sex *work,* which is what Epstein and Maxwell had her doing.

  10. Thats quite a jump from “never seen her in my life” to “she’s legal somewhere”.

  11. So sexual tourism instead? Isn’t that still a fucking crime? I lose hope every day that these rich assholes will ever be brought to justice.

  12. I work with a lot of people who work closely with members of the royal family (think civil servants) and honestly everyone I’ve spoken to, down to the most diehard monarchist, despises Andrew with a passion. And Camilla, they also say she’s awful. But mostly they hate Andrew.
