The West Is Unlikely to Accept Russia’s NATO Demands — and the Kremlin Knows It

  1. Putin’s time will end eventually, and like any aging leader who didn’t achieve much for their country, war tend to be their answer of going out in a blaze of glory

  2. Yeah no shit, that’s the point. I’m honestly furious about this, it really seemed like we were en route to become a kinda normal place up to 2012. And then everything turned into a fucking nightmare, especially after Ukraine invasion, no idea what for. And he’ll get even more desperate to stay in power because he knows what will happen when he loses it after all of it. Miss those Medvedev times, say what you want about him being a puppet but it felt like a different country back then.

  3. Why would NATO agree to this? They wouldn’t. If they did the money would stop flowing in. If there is no threat of Russia, there is no NATO.

edit: I’ll take what’s common knowledge, but people are too scared to admit for 100, Alex

  4. How much of this is posturing to create distraction from internal issues? Like, I can’t see what Russia has to geopolitcally win from any escalation.

Any new invasion would just cost massively and only require more military resources to keep security in the occupied areas and border with Kyiv controlled Ukraine. And, even if there was no military actions from NATO/EU, just economic sanctions can seriously wreck Russia’s economy that’s still bleeding from the last one, and covid.

  5. So Russia just attacks any neighbouring country who wants to join NATO. This should be seen as a direct threat to NATO. I think whenever a country wants to join NATO they should be taken under the alliance’s protection until the application process has finished.

  6. You mean America.

Europe is currently trying to find the nicest way to fold in pieces to China’s blackmailing of Lithuania because we are still a couple of dozen of scared tribes trying to find out who to kowtow to. If it was alone on this, the invasion would have already started.

  7. I don’t know of it’s just Reddit being overrun with Russian trolls but there’s a lot of talk in r/Europe lately about just abandoning Eastern Europe all together like they’re not even a part of Europe or NATO. It’s like Western Europe would want to evade war at any cost and just sit by buying Russian gas while the east is run over again.
