What has gone wrong at Wilko?

  1. It has become less useful over the years, with a smaller range of stock.

My local one used to be pretty big (it was in a former DIY store unit) had a good range of stuff – they even had things like power tools. Earlier this year they then decided to shrink the size of the store and the range of stuff they sell. I even heard one of the shop assistants say to a customer (who couldn’t find something they were looking for) “sorry, we don’t sell that anymore, they’ve made the store smaller and it’s not as good as it used to be”.

Then there are the opening hours.

My local Wilko used to be open until 8-9pm because of its location, pre-pandemic they cut that to 6pm then at some point later panicked and raised it back to 7pm. Too late people went instead to Home Bargains, B&M, The Range which were open until 8 or 9pm and they never looked back. Most people work 9-5 or thereabouts, late opening in the C. 21st is a must especially on a retail park.

    Edit: fix typos
